The retired NBA star, who had spent time on the links with Woods the day before on an LA golf course, revealed a few details about the time they spent with one another, a day during which Wade had the opportunity to learn from the “GOAT” of golf.
Wade spoke on the “NBA on TNT” pregame show Wednesday night:
MORE: Tiger Woods’ injuries — What to know about injuries, timetable for return
I woke up today so proud to be able to post that moment for the world and be able to get a little snippet of our moment together. I took a nap, and I woke up, and I woke up to the news. Just like everybody out there, my thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones, because we all are shaken and shook at that moment, not knowing what happened with Tiger. My prayers go out to him, and hopefully a speedy recovery for him, hope he gets a chance to go back to doing what he loves to do, and that’s playing the game of golf. And I’m just thankful that he took the time to teach me a few things about the game of golf yesterday.
Wade and Woods were on a nearby Los Angeles golf course, where Woods had been giving Wade a few pointers. Wade shared a video earlier that morning of the meeting between the two on the course.
Woods, recovering from December back surgery, had not been playing with Wade, but acting as an instructor.
Woods also met with actor and comedian David Spade, who was doing video shoots for Golf Digest, and was scheduled to meet NFL quarterbacks Drew Brees and Justin Herbert the morning of the wreck.
Woods suffered serious leg injuries in the crash, and could be out of action for more than a year.
