Simon contends that spiritual cinema is a genre just as legitimate as action or comedy. “Spiritual cinema has been around forever,” he says. “It just hasn’t been recognized as such.” Inspired by Simon, a handful of indie movie stores have added spiritual sections to their stores. Will Blockbuster follow? Too soon to tell, but imitating success is one value that Hollywood holds dear.
