Johnson, who finished tied for seventh in the LIV Golf Invitational outside London, is one of the PGA Tour’s most notable defectors. Johnson’s decision has proved costly in some ways; the Royal Bank of Canada dumped Johnson from a sponsorship deal after he opted to join LIV Golf.
It has proved more profitable in other ways, though; Johnson’s seventh-place finish netted him $675,000, a very pretty penny.
Now, “DJ” hopes to add to his legacy at Brookline, Mass. — albeit under contentious conditions. Johnson won the U.S. Open in 2016 and has fared well in the competition, earning four top-five finishes.
He’ll hope to notch another impressive showing in this year’s iteration. Regardless of how Johnson performs, though, this is certain: people will be talking about him.

NBC’s networks will offer coverage of the 2022 U.S. Open. USA Network and NBC will split coverage throughout the tournament’s run. USA Network will handle morning duties every day except Saturday, while NBC will broadcast the tournament’s afternoon proceedings every day.
