The Duke big man became the first freshman in ACC history to be the named the conference’s Player of the Year. Okafor also took home ACC Freshman of the Year and was a unanimous selection for both the All-ACC and All-Freshman teams. Okafor averaged 17.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game while shooting a blistering 69 percent from the field.

Defensive Player of the Year went to Virginia’s Darion Atkins, as he led Division I schools in top defense with 31 blocks and a team-high 112 defensive rebounds.

Coach of the Year went to Virginia’s Tony Bennett, who won the award for the second consecutive year. Rounding out the honors was Syracuse’s Rakeem Christmas, who was named Most Improved Player.
