According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 36.6 percent of American adults consume fast food on any given day. In its study, Fast Food Consumption Among Adults in the United States, 2013–2016, the institution also found that the consumption of fast food increases with higher family income.
For example, 42 percent of higher-income adults, which is greater than 350 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL) consume fast food on any given day. This is compared with 31.7 percent of lower-income adults, which is less than or equal to 130 percent of FPL. The study also finds that men are more likely than women to eat fast food for lunch. However, women are more likely to have fast food as a snack.
Mobile apps also fuel Americans to get their hands in fast food. According to Worldpay’s Vantiv/Socratic Monthly Consumer EMV Mobile Payment Survey – Dec 2017, 43 percent of Americans use their mobile device to pay for fast food, which is illustrated in the chart below provided by Statista.
