“Mr. Trump, who we initially quoted as a 150-to-1 no-hoper, clearly relishes his role as the unpredictable maverick and looks set to be a serious contender,” William Hill spokesperson Graham Sharpe said in a statement.
Other winners and losers in the eyes of the oddsmakers:
Winners: Jeb Bush remains the chalk and saw his odds shortened to 5-to-4 from 11-to-8. John Kasich made a nice upward move, from 20-to-1 to 16-to-1. Ben Carson, Chris Christie and Ted Cruz also saw adjustments in the favor. Carly Fiorina, the star of the afternoon debate, had her odds cut in half and is now 25-to-1.
Losers: Marco Rubio and Scott Walker, the co-second favorites, had their prices lengthened. Fiorina was the only of the seven candidates in the early debate to have moved up the oddsboard; most of the others went in the other direction.
The biggest winner, though, may have been the Democrats, whose odds to win the presidency in 2016 were reduced from 8-to-11 to 2-to-3 by the British bookmakers.
