Pizza maker Miles received a call from a local mom to cancel a large order she’d placed, as a lot of her daughter’s friends were no-shows.

Miles decided to create a bespoke gift, edible of course, to send over to the youngster instead.

A post on the Coolum branch’s Facebook page, based in Australia, shared the touching tribute, and a snap of birthday-themed dessert.

Posted on Tuesday, it said: “Last week, Domino’s Coolum received a call from a local Mum hoping to cancel the large order she had placed as a number of her daughter’s peers hadn’t turned up to her birthday party.

“When she arrived at the store to collect the one pizza, shift supervisor Miles surprised her with a custom chocolate dessert pizza topped with churros & brownies!

“Thank you Miles for going the extra ‘mile’ to help turn this customer’s day around.”

In the snap, which amassed 81,000 likes, Miles holds up the chocolatey creation, which also says “happy b’day” in chocolate.

Miles told Newsweek: “When I first heard that one of our customer’s wanted to cancel a large pizza order after only one friend turned up to her daughter’s birthday party, I knew I wanted to do something to cheer her up.

“I thought about what would have made me happy at that age, and immediately decided to make her a surprise Choc Fudge Brownie and Churro pizza—because the only thing maybe better than pizza, is a chocolate one!

“It was only something small, but I’m pleased to know that in some way, the team at Domino’s Coolum and I were able to turn her day around and make her feel special.” And he added the response to the post has been “overwhelming.”

While it’s not clear what age the girl was celebrating, friendship groups are a “crucial” aspect of adolescence, the Pew Research Center states.

Published in 2018, it said: “Many teens who see their friends on a less-than-daily basis express a desire for more time together in person.

“Just 17 percent of teens who get together with friends on a daily basis say they spend too little time together but that share rises to 42 percent among teens who get together with friends less often.”

The rise of social media is touted by critics as one explanation for why young people don’t spend as much time face-to-face, but the research found other factors come into play.

“Teens themselves point to a variety of reasons for why they do not spend more time with their friends in person.

“The most common of these (cited by 41 percent of teens) is that teens themselves report they simply have too many other obligations to find time to hang out with friends.

“Meanwhile, 34 percent say their friends are too busy with their own obligations to find the time for friend activities, and 32 percent say the difficulty of finding transportation prevents them from seeing their friends more often,” the findings said.

A woman, named Lauren O’Rourke, is believed to be the mom, as she re-posted Domino’s photo to her own Facebook page, as she too praised Miles, confirming her daughter did enjoy her big day.

“Skylahs birthday [sic]. This was the most wonderfully kind and generous and so loving gesture from Miles and the team at our local Domino’s,” she said.

While she also commented on Coolum’s post, saying her daughter had a “lovely birthday,” celebrating with “two very special friends.”

She said: “The visit from Miles at our door was overly special and the biggest surprise.

“The love from our community has been the most memorable for our family. So much love.

“We are so appreciative and grateful to live this beautiful life. Sending love and happiness to everyone.”

O’Rourke told Newsweek: “If all of us in our lives can choose kindness always and lead a life of love, this world will live a life of peace and happiness.

“We need to live our best life and find the true meaning of happiness—which is love and kindness to all.”

In the comments Miles was hailed a champion, as Odette Van Wyk wrote: “What’s with this sudden trend in parents not taking their kids to birthday parties or at least letting the parent know they won’t be?? So utterly cruel—imagine what they’re teaching their children.”

Peta Hardman raved: “Miles was raised right!! Well done mate!!”

Charvonica Elizabeth McCandless said: “This is my biggest fear as a parent. So happy there was some what of a good ending to this.”

Jayden Lawry replied: “This is so heartbreaking. Miles we love you, thankyou for bringing a little happiness to this kid for his birthday.”

Maddie Burness added: “Go Miles! Absolute champion.”
