In addition to Tagavailoa, Miami also drafted USC tackle Austin Jackson and Auburn cornerback Noah Igbinoghene in the first round. SN’s Vinnie Iyer had both selections as reaches, considering they had needs at safety and running back. They later took a safety in the third round, grabbing Texas’ Brandon Jones, but never made the move to grab a running back through the draft, instead trading a fifth-round pick to the 49ers for Matt Breida.

Dolphins NFL Draft needs
Offensive line: The Dolphins need two new tackles to protect whoever their young quarterback is. Safety: Miami has some decent players at safety like Eric Rowe, but there is plenty of room for improvement. Defensive line: Christian Wilkins is a good piece in the middle of the defensive line to build off of, but the Dolphins need multiple pass rushers off the edge. Running back: Ryan Fitzpatrick led the Dolphins in rushing last season. Need I say more? Quarterback: The most important and the most obvious. Fitzpatrick can be a bride guy, but who will lead the Dolphins out of the abyss?
