Dolly announced that the singer-songwriter had died following a battle with cancer.
“The family and I are grieving his loss but we know he is in a better place than we are at this time,” she said in a post shared to Facebook.
“We are a family of faith and we believe that he is safe with God and that he is joined by members of the family that have gone on before and have welcomed him with joy and open arms.”
The country music icon said that her brother was “a great singer, writer, and entertainer.”
Randy is the eighth of 12 kids born to Robert and Avie Lee. He played guitar and bass in his sister’s band for years and also had his own show at Dollywood.
“He sang, played guitar and bass in my band for many years. He headed his own show at Dollywood since it opened in 1986. He’s had several chart records of his own, but his duet with me on ‘Old Flames Can’t Hold A Candle To You’ will always be a highlight in my own career.”
Randy most recently featured as part of a duet with his sister on her new Christmas album, something which Dolly mentioned in her Tribute
“‘You Are My Christmas,’ our duet on my latest Christmas album, joined with his daughter Heidi, will always be a favorite,” she said. “It was his last musical recording and he shined on it just like he’s shining in heaven now.”
Dolly said that Randy is survived by his wife Deb, his daughter Heidi, son Sabyn, grandsons Huston and Trent.
“We will always love him and he will always be in our hearts, Dolly Parton and Family.”
Randy had some radio hits in the 1980s, including “Hold Me Like You Never Had Me” and “Shot Full of Love” both of which were Top 40 radio hits.
Randy’s death comes two-years after brother Floyd Parton’s death in December 2018. He was just 61 when he died.
Dolly celebrated her 75th birthday last week, with well wishes from all generations dedicated to the country music legend.
Also last week, a Tennessee lawmaker has called for a statue of Dolly Parton to be erected on the grounds of the state Capitol.
“At this point in history, is there a better example, not just in America but in the world, of a leader that is [a] kind, decent, passionate human being?” John Mark Windle, a state representative for Fentress, Morgan and Overton counties said.
Parton is “a passionate person who loves everyone, and everyone loves her,” he added.
