Ryu’s exit means the Dodgers will need at least seven innings out of their ‘pen in San Francisco. Chris Perez took over for Ryu to begin the second. Carlos Frias worked the third and escaped a bases-loaded jam.

Three things in the Dodgers’ favor, though:

Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw are going the next two days.

Still, teams expect their starters to get at least into the middle innings, and any extra use of the bullpen can throw off its delicate balance.
