The Senegal international went to France in an attempt to force a move to Stade Rennes on deadline day and underwent a medical , but the deal fell through as the two clubs could not agree on a fee.

The Senegalese striker was out for most of last season due to a recurring back injury making just four appearances without scoring for the Hammers.

And with the Irons poor start to the new English top flight campaign, their gaffer is hoping the 27-year-old will put behind the disappointment of the failed transfer and give his absolute best for the club going forward.

“The fact is he (Sakho) wanted to go there. He did a medical, but the club decided not to sell him and he’s back,” Bilic told media.

“He looks good in training. Hopefully he is going to stay like that for a long time. Because he will know that until January he is a West Ham player.

“That’s the way he’s going to get a new contract, or play again for Senegal, or get a move: if he plays good.”
