There aren’t even words to describe the hatred between Ohio State and Michigan, but on Saturday when Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett went down with an injury and Devin Gardner stayed knelt beside him, all of that was pushed to the side.

Gardner showed compassion that transcended the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry. It was about a player just being there for another player. That act of kindness did not get past Ohio State. The school sent Gardner a letter to thank him for what he did.

The letter reads in part:

When a man is down on the field, everyone is on the same team.
