Sharp was 56. The cause of his death was not immediately released.

Sharp was a Detroit native and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1982. He joined the Free Press in 1983. Before becoming a columnist in January 1999, Sharp was the beat reporter for Michigan State and the Detroit Pistons. He covered high school sports in his early years at the paper.
His paper writes, “Sharp was famous for his acerbic wit and for being tough on the teams he covered.” Free Press executive editor Robert Huschka called Sharp a “powerful voice, with big opinions.”
He is survived by his wife, Karen.
