There are three main ways to earn Mementos in Destiny 2. Each way requires players to take part in specific activities, and some are easier to earn than others. Once earned, you can equip them to any weapon that was forged in the Relic in the Enclave on Mars.

Each Memento will provide players with different perks. For example, some can increase the number of vanity options available on a weapon. The perks also change based on the weapon’s overall level. Each Memento also includes a special shader, which will change the color of your weapon when that Memento is attached and the weapon is leveled up to a specific level.

Now that players have a better idea of what Mementos are and what they’re used for, let’s talk about how to earn them. As noted above, Mementos can be earned in three different activities. This may change in the future, but for now, you can only earn Mementos by taking part in Nightfalls, Trials of Osiris, and Gambit.

Players must complete the weekly Grandmaster Nightfall Strike to earn Mementos in Nightfalls. This strike resets each week at the Weekly Reset and brings a slew of rewards for players to the loot pool. Additionally, these strikes include several modifiers to make them more difficult. Any player who participates in a Nightfall will get one, but you can only earn one weekly.

The next way to earn Mementos is by taking part in Gambit matches. Unfortunately, earning Gambit Mementos is all up to RNG. All you need to do is play through Gambit matches––a mash of PVE and PVP gameplay. Mementos are considered rare items, so it may take a few matches to earn one. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee on how quickly they can be earned.

Finally, the last Mementos can be earned from the Trials of Osiris. These are difficult because they require a special event to take place––and you have to make your way through one of the toughest PVP modes available in Destiny 2.

Earning Mementos is just one of the new ways you can unlock special items in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. More of these items might appear in Destiny 2: Lightfall when it releases next year. However, Bungie has yet to announce anything solid.
