It has been unclear whether or not the virus could be spread from human to animal, as the virus is zoonotic, meaning it is more commonly known to spread from animal to human. However, a recent report from The Lancet showed evidence that two patients, both male who lived together, contracted monkeypox and most likely gave the virus to their 4-year-old Italian greyhound.
