Gary Majors managed to save the lives of eight of his own dogs and a client’s American bulldog after his home in the Green Acres area caught fire in the early hours of Monday. Majors was inside the house as heavy smoke flowed out of the second-floor window. Eight of his 11 dogs were rescued, and friends described him running in and out of the building to save them....
The dog, named Reggie, fell into the crevice on Wednesday (January 19) while out walking with his owner Leah. Emergency services responded quickly, but they were unable to reach Reggie. Food and drink was sent down into the crevice during the operation with the hopes that Reggie would be able to access it while the emergency rescue work continued. Home surveillance camera footage broadcast by several local news outlets shows parts of the incident that occurred in the Northcliffe subdivision, which deputies described as “horrific.” In one clip posted online by KTRK, the man, who was out for an early morning walk, can be seen backing away as the two dogs approach him. The man, who has not been identified, eventually backs up against a vehicle as the dogs bark at and jump up on him....

Starks, who wore a vest emblazoned with ‘Nique’s signature No. 21, got the attention of former Atlanta Hawks legend. Starks made his AEW debut in a match with TNT champion Cody Rhodes, and what followed was something awesome: AEW CEO Tony Khan announced that Starks was indeed All Elite, signing him to a contract, rendering his match with Rhodes as a starting point rather than a one-off appearance....
Domino’s Pizza’s mobile app was used to send a message about a hostage situation this week, leading police to swarm a house in San Diego. At about midnight on September 10, a Domino’s employee called 911, explaining they had received a message via the chain’s app that someone was being held hostage at a home on 24th and Market Streets in the historic Sherman Heights neighborhood. With guns drawn, police in tactical gear surrounded the house and began searching for the victim, KNSD Channel 7 reports....
Mattingly's agent, Ray Schulte, said Wednesday that Mattingly intends to honor his contract and return for a fourth season in the Dodger dugout. A vesting option in Mattingly's contract kicked in when the Dodgers advanced to this year's NLCS. Schulte's comments will not end the intrigue around Mattingly's contract, however. I agree with Cody that student debt is, in fact, a crisis. With that $1.7 trillion, I do agree that it’s holding our generation back in life. We aren’t hitting some of the same milestones our parents did financially, for that reason. But I think that student loan cancelation is, in fact, a Band-Aid because the underlying problem here is not student debt per se. It is the cost of university....
Yet like a lot of things in Washington, such impressive numbers fail to tell the whole story. Throwing money at a problem doesn’t automatically mean better results. First, skyrocketing inflation levels not seen in 40 years will mostly render such increases moot. The government simply printing money to fund higher spending is a root cause of inflation to begin with. Second, and what caught my attention as a veteran, is that these VA budget increases are happening as some in Congress push for major changes that would sharply limit the ability of veterans to file disability claims....
Listening to the debate over national missile defense, I wondered what Thomas Schelling would think of it. Schelling is the economist who first seriously applied game theory to politics and international relations, work that should have won him the Nobel Prize (if economists weren’t such snobs about political science). The former Clippers owner has, at last, ended his legal battle with the NBA over the $2 billion sale of the franchise by agreeing to a settlement. The agreement announced Friday comes after a federal judge dismissed Sterling’s lawsuit against the NBA in March in which Sterling asked for $600 million in “actual damages” as well as other legal fees.
