A Morning Call/Muhlenberg College survey released Thursday shows Trump trailing to former Vice President Joe Biden, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Biden, who was born in Scranton, performed the best in a head-to-head race with the president, topping Trump by 9 percentage points. Fifty-two percent of Pennsylvania voters polled backed the former vice president compared with the 43 percent who would support Trump in his re-election bid....

Trump Jr. shared a video on social media of Trump mocking Joint Chiefs Chairman Army Gen. Milley during an impromptu speech at his Mar-a-Lago resort, in Florida, on Saturday. The former President drew cheers from the crowd after he hit out at Gen. Milley and commented on the disastrous U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August. President Joe Biden’s administration is leaving implementation of health passports up to the private sector and they’ve been rolled out in at least two cities. Health passports provide a way for people to digitally show their vaccination record or a negative health test and are being floated as a way of increasing capacity at social events. COVID-19 vaccines and the potential for them to be required to participate in certain aspects of life have become highly polarized....

However, some observers have perceived the kneeling to be a protest against the American flag. A new poll from the Pew Research Center shows that two weeks after the U.S. Capitol riot, nearly 70 percent of Americans disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job as president, with the majority saying they strongly disapprove. Comparably, only 29 percent of U.S. adults say they approve of his job performance. The new figures are lower than in August, when Trump held an approval rating of 38 percent, a number that had remained virtually unchanged since June, when the nation was ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic and swept by racial justice protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis police custody....

After two days of chaos in the House and McCarthy not passing the threshold of 218 votes to claim the gavel in the Republican-controlled lower chamber, the House reconvened on Thursday to try and find a way forward. In the final ballot on Wednesday, McCarthy acquired 201 votes, still short of the threshold. There are 222 Republicans in the House, so more than four of them not voting for McCarthy will mean that he will not pass the threshold to be House Speaker....

On Wednesday—in the final hours of his presidency—Trump granted pardons to 73 individuals and commuted the sentences of an additional 70 people. Included in the list were Trump’s former strategist Steve Bannon, who is facing fraud charges, and the rapper Lil Wayne. But noticeably absent from the list were Snowden, Assange and Winner, all of whom have been subject to speculation that they may be granted clemency. Winner, a former government contractor, was incarcerated in 2018 after being sentenced to 63 months for removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet....

In her decision, Judge Wendy Beetlestone called the Trump administration’s national security concerns with TikTok “phrased in the hypothetical.” Three TikTok users, each who have over 1 million followers and base their personal businesses on the app, filed a suit to stop Trump from banning the app. Among their arguments, the users said the videos they created on the app deserved legal protection. “The short videos created and exchanged on TikTok are expressive and informative, and are analogous to the ‘films,’ ‘artworks,’ ‘photographs,’ and ’news wire feeds’ expressly protected under [the International Emergency Economic Powers Act],” Beetlestone wrote....
