A new proposal to cull the creatures has created a dilemma for the national parks authority, South African National Parks. As a responsible custodian, it has urged that “decisive action is required” to safeguard the survival of the rich diversity of life forms in South African wildlife reserves. The culling of elephants, it argues, is needed as a precautionary measure to avert local species’ extinctions in future. “A decision on the use of culling as a legitimate option for management of elephants,” the park managers said back in 2005, “should not be delayed beyond March 2006....

The Detroit City Council green-lit the plan on Tuesday through the approval of a contract with the Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation worth more than $1 million, according to The Detroit News. The city’s efforts will use a census-like approach to communicate directly with residents as efforts to vaccinate Americans ramp up in Michigan and throughout the country. According to the City Council’s Tuesday session agenda, the goal of the contract is “to provide outreach canvassing to increase vaccine appointments for eligible Detroiters....

“Devin Nunes has betrayed the truth, betrayed the trust of voters and, quite possibly, betrayed our country,” the Sacramento Bee editorial board wrote Monday. On Friday, the House Judiciary Committee released text messages between Derek Harvey, Nunes’ aide, and Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas. The documents show the claim Parnas made earlier that Nunes was “involved” through Harvey in the plan to dig up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden’s dealings in Ukraine as it related to his son, Hunter Biden....

Nunes named Twitter in a $250 million lawsuit in June, claiming the social media platform allowed the parody accounts to spread misinformation about him, harming his reelection campaign. Along with Twitter, Nunes sued the users behind the accounts “Devin Nunes’ Cow” and “Devin Nunes’ Mom.” Republican strategist Liz Mair was also named in the suit. In a Friday ruling, Virginia Judge John Marshall said Nunes could not sue Twitter because the platform was not liable for what people posted under federal law....

The California Rep. told Fox News on Wednesday night that he “just didn’t know the name” when the data was first released, noting that his office was “dealing with people every day.” He also recalled going back to check where he was when the phone call took place, describing the conversation as “very odd” and “random.” When he appeared on Fox News after the House Intelligence Committee released his personal call logs in early December, Nunes said his team had “not been able to confirm” whether he spoke with Parnas....

The Cowboys wide receiver is expected to miss one to two weeks with a bone bruise after the team stated on Wednesday he suffered a hairline knee fracture, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday. “Source who has seen his results said a knee like his is commonly referred to as a bone bruise,” Rapoport reported. “No long-term risk.” Bryant briefly left the Cowboys’ win over the Bears last Sunday before returning and finishing the game....
