New Jersey-based Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge said in a Facebook post on Tuesday the pup was adopted from its center a few months ago by a man named Brian who had developed a “special bond” with the dog despite it being nervous around men. The team said Brian had helped to give the dog, Sadie, a second chance at life, and last week it returned the favor by helping him during a medical emergency....
Ozgur Gevrekoglu was killed while out hunting with his friend in the Kızlan Plateau, in the Samsun Province of Turkey, the newspaper Turkiye reported. While putting his dog into his car, the animal’s paw touched the loaded weapon and the rifle fired at Gevrekoglu from a short distance. He was taken to the hospital after the incident and later pronounced dead. Gevrekoglu’s body has since been taken to the Alacam State Hospital morgue and an investigation is underway to understand more details about his death....

The investigation launched by international animal protection group Lady Freethinker was conducted in June, and found that dogs are being kept in sacks at the markets, with their mouths tied shut, before they are killed. Footage taken by the investigator shows the dogs being kept in cages and piled on top of each other in filthy conditions. Once the dogs are killed, the bodies are torched to get rid of any hair, Lady Freethinker said in a release sent to Newsweek....
Civil rights attorneys with the U.S. Justice Department on Monday filed the complaint against the town of Clarksville, Indiana, alleging the unnamed man was qualified to serve as an officer, but police rescinded their employment offer after learning about his HIV status. The complaint accuses the town’s police of violating a provision of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) protecting HIV-positive people. The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, states that the unnamed person’s HIV “is well-controlled with medication and his viral load is, and during all relevant times was, fully suppressed....
